Cleaning floppydisks

To properly clean floppy disks greatly increases the likelihood of being able to recover all the data without problems. Fail to do so may result in disk surface damage, irrevocably damaging the data beyond any hope.

In had to clean more than 300 disks and had a hard time keeping the little door open to clean the disk without getting the donut out of the case. As it turns out, there's an easy solution to the problem.

I designed a bracket to hold the door open, and a turning tool to turn the disk inside its case easily. I use normal 70% rubbing alcohol and a microfiber cloth to clean the disks. It takes a bit of practice but once you've done a few it'll speed up.

In the video below I will explain exactly how to do it using the cleaning kit I designed.

The cleaning kit 3D printable STL files can be downloaded here.
